Good design often disappears into a routine. What is one object you use almost every day, and what small detail makes it work well? Mine is a wooden ruler with a cork backing because it stays put when I draw a line.

I have a wide ceramic mug with a handle that fits my whole hand. It is steady on the desk and easy to wash. The glaze has worn a little near the rim, which makes it feel more like mine.

A small linen notebook. It opens flat, so I can hold a page with one hand while measuring or arranging something with the other. The useful detail is not decorative, but I notice it every time.
